Facebook has released its new profile design. This design is still in beta, meaning that it could still change over the next few weeks. Either way it looks like Facebook will be making this switch before the end of June.

What Facebook thinks of the new design:

We believe that the new design makes profiles cleaner and simpler, gives users more control over their profiles, and emphasizes recent and relevant information.

Personally I feel the new design is a little too spread out and disconnected. The information is very spread out, and seems to cater to users with heavy amounts of data. Some of my friends profiles looks so empty and ugly, that wasn’t the case before. This new design seems to solve the issue with cluttered profiles, but create a new one with empty profiles.

What do you think of the new design? What could be better? What did Facebook do right?

AJ, the link you provide to play with the new design does not work :(

  2. AJ Vaynerchuk Says:

    Jacob,

I believe you have to be logged into Facebook for the link to work. The link takes you to the new version of your own profile.

    Hopefully that works!

  3. Chance Clay Says:

The link will not work for me either. I have tried both Safari and Firefox on the mac.

  4. Robin Says:

In response to Jacob, I think the link is only open to developers. It wouldn’t work for me either while logged in.

I’ve looked at all the info on this new Facebook re-design, and I’ve been waiting a long time for this, but it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. I really would like a simple option like just changing the background image or colors; something to that effect, so everybody doesn’t seem so generic.

I think the new format is going to take a little getting used to, and I would really have to play with it to see if I like it. At this point, I’m just annoyed because I’m not allowed to minimize my mini-feed anymore, which Facebook says:

    Mini-Feed cannot be collapsed anymore.

This is part of the larger changes we will soon be making to the profile. For more information, please see the Facebook Profiles Preview Page.

Anyway, that’s my two cents. Maybe I’ll be a little more open to it once I’m actually able to play around with the features and see exactly how I can customize my profile to my liking.

  5. Mattie Says:

Nope. The link definitely didn’t work for me. Just took me to the homepage and my Newsfeed.

  6. Dale Cruse Says:

AJ, even when logged in, that link defaults back to my regular profile page. Nothing new.

  7. AJ Vaynerchuk Says:

My apologies everyone, Robin is right. The only way the link works is if you are a developer! Sorry again!

  8. Justin Thorp Says:

While I think there probably will be A LOT of upheaval with the new profile design, I really dig it.

FB has this problem where for some it’s just pulling in this obscene amount of data and throwing it at you in so many different ways that it all starts to be useless.

What’s probably the biggest uses case for you to go to someone’s profile page? It’s to check up on someone and see what they’re doing. That’s your minifeed and the first/default tab.

With the way it was before, in the very linear format, everything is shoved so far down to the bottom a lot of the apps and wall probably getting less utilized. This will make it easier for user to see stuff while doing less work.
