Andrew Baron Selling His Twitter Acount on Ebay
Andrew Baron is selling his Twitter account on Ebay:

Here is the link to the Ebay auction: here
Here is Andrew’s explanation for the sale:
I really love my Twitter account but I feel like I haven’t been using it the way I want to. Quite honestly, I feel sorry for all of my followers because they wind up with my tweets in their timelines and I haven’t been able to utilize the medium the way I want to. I also participate in another Twitter account over on Rocketboom so I’m thinking I’ll post more over there and start up a new account to do what I want to do next.
This is a controversial move and I am very interested to see how this all plays out. Personally I think Andrew should hold onto the name from a branding standpoint. What if the winner decides to keep the name and goes on to soil the name Andrew Baron? I am also not sure how “kosher” the sale is. What do you think of the auction? Do you think it is a joke? A pr stunt? Or is it for real?
* Update: I placed a bid, trying to win the account so I could freeze it and save both Andrew and his followers from the auction. Sadly, I lost out, but no worries, I am pretty sure that Andrew was just seeing what kind of questions this stunt would prompt.

Whether or not it’s real is one thing. But not very ‘kosher’ at all.
Selling a twitter account is just as bad as selling emails, and probably against the TOS. The only difference is that twitter users can opt out, but it doesn’t make it any better.

If it actually works, it could be a harbinger of things to come.. people squatting on twitter names as well as domain names. *shudder*

[…] Lots of commentary on Andrew Baron, founder of Rocketboom deciding to sell his Twitter account on eBay. Basically, the idea is you pay for his Twitter followers, and you can then change the name on the account. You get a preinstalled audience of about 1,400 people that it’s up to you to keep. As of this writing, there are 34 bids, now up to $1,125. […]
